Colorado Avalanche Refresh

In 1995, Colorado re-joined the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche, formerly known as the Quebec Nordiques. The logo, designed by Joe Bosack, is great. A burgundy letter A trimmed in silver and blue with a puck and avalanche cascading down around and over it, on a solid white oval with a blue ribbon edge. The only changes to this design since have been a change in the shade of burgundy, PMS 209 from PMS 202. This mark has served the franchise well for over 30 years but is starting to look somewhat dated. The logo is a 90’s style logo, with the oval and the texture lines of the snow slide; it could use a refresh.
The Quebec Nordiques logo, a red letter N next to a hockey stick with a blue puck, with the overall shape also representing an igloo. I wanted to pay homage to this original logo but represent Colorado.
Here, I have combined a simplified Colorado symbol and elements of the Nordiques logo, while not wanting to change team colors. I played around with other combinations of the elements, some better than others. The middle design, where the blades of the sticks point out is definitely not one of my favorites, however, I do like the third design where the sticks frame the mountain.
